The transformative schemes proviodes two new platforms at Corks historic Kent Station. The platforms are a vital component in enabling delivery of the full goals of the Cork Area Commuter Rail scheme.
Key Features
- 220m long extension of the existing Platform 5B, along with creation of new Platform 6.
- New sheet piled retaining with concrete capping beam to create the new Track 6.
- Installation of 1500m2 piled reinforced concrete foundation, immediately adjajcent to the live railway requiring extensive temporary works to be designed and installed by our team on site.
- Precast concrete units to create the new platforms.
- Installation of 2 No 80m long structural steel platform canopies with roof and soffit cladding.
- Reconstruction of existing closed subway access ramp into new platform access.
- Full electrical fit out for the new arrangement, connecting all systems into live existing networks, including recess canopy lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm system, PAVA.
- Upgrade to existing platforms in the station building with 500m2 of new granite paving.
- Extensive stainless and glass balustrades to delineate platforms and ticket areas.
- New Drivers Walkway providing access to the maintenace depot from the existing station building.
- All works carried out in fully live operational rail environment - all labour, plant and materials had to cross live tracks.
